A Blue Day – Making history, not reliving it

Chelsea held on to beat Liverpool 2-1 to win the FA Cup Final on Saturday evening as the stars of past glories proved they are not yet over the hill as many have suggested in recent times. The Chelsea goals came in either half courtesy of Ramires and Didier Drogba, while Liverpool looked dangerous with the introduction of Andy Carroll who scored their only goal.

This was a day for Didier Drogba, who now has 8 goals in 8 games at Wembley, including goals in all 4 finals he has played (2007, 2009, 2010, 2012). If Peter Osgood is the King of Stamford Bridge, Drogba is undoubtedly the King of Wembley.

This was a day for Frank Lampard and Petr Cech, both still in their prime despite their ages, the former supplying a fantastic pass for Drogba’s goal, the latter preventing a second Carroll goal with an amazing acrobatic save. Cech has NEVER lost an FA Cup game. Unbelievable Jeff!

This was a day for Ashley Cole, who already had the record of maximum FA Cup wins with 6 before this final. Now he stretches his record to SEVEN, another player much-maligned in the media but producing the goods week in week out.

This was a day for John Terry, who now has FOUR FA Cup trophies as captain, the first post-war captain to achieve that feat and the first to do so with one club. Captain Leader Legend.

Let us not forget the relative newcomers – Ramires, Juan Mata (Man of the Match), Fernando Torres, Raul Meireles, Ryan Bertrand, Oriol Romeu – who have played important roles through the cup run and have their first taste of success in Blue. Hopefully the first of many. Also a mention to the unsung work of John Obi Mikel, rejuvenated under the new boss.

But most of all, this was a day for Robbie Di Matteo, goalscorer in the FA Cup wins of 1997 and 2000, and Eddie Newton, his midfield partner, good friend and now assistant, who also scored in that 1997 final. How poignant that events so played out that they hold aloft the famous trophy in 2012 for THEIR CLUB. Our club. Robbie becomes the 15th person to win this prestigious competition as both player and manager.

He defines humility with the way he gives credit to his players, even going on to mention Andre Villas-Boas who saw Chelsea through the first two rounds in this competition. His appointment has come as a breath of fresh air for the players and fans who were rotting under AVB. Most importantly, he is one of us…..

In the end, this was a BLUE DAY, Chelsea winning their fourth FA Cup in six years. Not since the Wanderers team in the amateur times of the 19th century has a single club so dominated the history of the FA Cup. We now have SEVEN Cup wins overall, the same as Liverpool. We ain’t got no history?

CAREFREE and on to Munich!

Friday Video – John Terry Tribute

Tommorow is another tough day for John Terry as he returns to Loftus Road for the first time since the Anton Ferdinand saga started. I choose to focus on what he has done on the pitch for us, so to show FamousCFC.com’s support he is the feature for our Friday video.

Enjoy this John Terry tribute

Why John Terry Had To Be Dropped As England Captain

Carefree Wherever We May BeThere is uproar amongst many at the removal of John Terry as captain but the timing of the court case has forced the FA’s arm and sadly I believe that they had no choice.

John Terry has the support and backing of FamousCFC.com as Chelsea captain and we do not believe that he is a racist regardless of the outcome of the upcoming court case.

However as England captain he represents the nation, our ideals beyond those simply of football an England captain must be beyond repute acting as a role model and figurehead representing our country.

If a player has a reputation that is in dispute then an individual is not eligible for this position until this is resolved.

We have to accept that the charges against John Terry are very serious for such a public figure and have to be dealt with as such.

For the captaincy I believe that the precedence of innocent until proven guilty is not applicable, the mere implication in criminal proceedings (however bogus) makes him ineligible for the captaincy until they are resolved.

These are not easy things to write given my respect for John Terry and his position with the club but I would share this opinion about any player in these circumstances.

The timing of this all is deeply regrettable and I hope that you will join me in supporting John Terry at the Bridge on Sunday.

Queen’s Park Rangers Vs Chelsea F.C FA Cup 4th Round – LINE UPS

This is set to be a highly contested derby. With matters of alleged racist abuse gaining all the attention, the focus will be fully on John Terry and Anton Ferdinand.

Chelsea lost on their last visit to Loftus Road, with the Blues having two men sent off in the first half; by a ref who has came under question all season.

Both chairmen have issued statements warning fans not to engage in behaviour that will be deemed as unacceptable. The fans will be hyped up all throughout the match and both clubs are hoping to avoid any confrontation outside the stadium.

Chelsea will be touted as favourites for this match, but this does not mean QPR will not threaten throughout. Joey Barton will look to dominate the midfield and possibly try to wind up our players. It is our players job not to react to his mind games.

Gary Cahill looks likely to make his début in this game and with Salomon Kalou and Didier Drogba still on Africa Cup of Nations duty, it again leaves Romelu Lukaku and Fernando Torres in a battle for the centre forward position with Juan Mata and Daniel Sturridge set to provide support on the wings.

Confirmed Chelsea XI-

Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Meireles, Malouda, Sturridge, Torres, Mata.

Chelsea Defensive Review: November 2011

So far this season our defensive statistics do not make great reading, with our defence leaking goals and costing us points.

In 11 Premier League games we have conceded 15 goals and kept just two clean sheets, this has been caused by untimely and uncharacteristic personal errors.

As well as poor positioning and a lack of solidity that goes against the high standards our defenders are capable of.

So here are the player by player reviews for the season so far

John Terry

Despite the race row with Anton Ferdinand and his lack of pace, Terry is still an effective rock at the heart of our defence.

Whenever the team struggles you can still count on Terry to have put in a shift even though he has made some a couple of minor errors (who doesn’t).

He has let from the front and proved himself to be a captain, leader, legend on numerous occasions despite more controversy cracking off around him.

Rating – 7.5 out of 10

David Luiz

A cult hero at Stamford Bridge, David Luiz has shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season however as a centre back he can still be rash and make poor decisions.

He has not been as effective as Branislav Ivanovic or Alex in central defence and I do not think he is part of our best central defensive line up.

There is a growing clamour for him to be played in a defensive midfield position so he can make use of his marauding style, range of passing and confidence going forward whilst protecting the backline.

Rating – 5 out of 10

Alex

Injured for part of the season, Alex does not seem to be in favour with Andre villas Boas however the Brazilian is powerful and dependable and a perfect partner for John Terry.

Rating – 6 out of 10

Branislav Ivanovic

Has not started as often as he would like but whether it is at centre back or right back he has performed solidly.

He came in for the misfiring Jose Boswinga at Blackburn and can claim an assist worthy of any winger for the winner; I expect we may see a lot more of him in a wide position in the next few weeks.

A rugged defender with a Rolls Royce engine

Rating – 7.5 out of 10

Jose Boswinga

The right back has started the majority of games this season, but has struggled with his positioning at critical points of the season.

This has cost the team points and him his place in the team.

Always good going forward he adds something to the team but needs to work on his defensive play pr it may be difficult to justify his place in the starting line up.

Rating – 5 out of 10

Ashley Cole

The most dependable player in our defence, he is strong going forward and in defence, a truly priceless part of our team.

I would like to see him rested occasionally to keep him in tip top shape for as long as possible.

Rating – 8 out of 10
