Carroll and Cech A New Chelsea v Liverpool Ghost Goal Saga (But it Definitely Didnt Cross The Line)
Another FA Cup game at Wembley and another huge argument for the implementation of goal line technology after Andy Carroll was millimetres away from equalising for Liverpool in yesterday’s final.
This incident will undoubtedly give some Liverpool fans the excuse to try and claim they are the victims of an injustice and play the victim, but in this case the officials (as in most others) there is no case to answer.
The officials got the decision right as no matter how close it was to being fully over the line there was no conclusive evidence which means the decision must be given that no goal is awarded.
The Need for Technology
The problem is in the heat of the moment from 30 yards away its an impossible call for the linesman to make and even harder for the referee due the angle despite being closer.
On this occasion the officials got it right and as Chelsea fans we are grateful, but there is so much potential for them to have repeated their mistake from the semi final.
In these situations the benefit of the doubt must go to the defence but with so much at stake, can we really continue to rely on the human eye when other solutions are so easily available and would not affect the integrity of the game.
Petr Cech
Finally it is worth a huge mention for Petr Cech who made an amazing reaction save which in effect won us the cup final.
He has had his rough moments over the years following his injury but there is no doubt that he is now back to his best.
