View From the Opposition Blog – Empire of The Kop

Before each game I will delve inside the warped mind of someone who doesn’t support Chelsea.

This week it is Antoine Zammit founder of Empire of the Kop, here is what he said when we caught up with him in the build up to our crunch match at the Bridge.

Challenge Antoine and Liverpool for free in our new game from Bodugi

Hi Antoine, tell us a little about yourself and how Empire of The Kop started?

I have been a Liverpool fan for over 33 year, I grew up in Malta and moved to the US in 1992. When social media started exploded I started using the medium to connect with other Liverpool fans for updates and banter.

Before I knew it I ended up with 5000 friends on Facebook and hitting the limit. It was then I decided to move to Twitter and also start my own blog (Empire of The Kop).

What’s your greatest Liverpool FC memory?

It has to be May 25th 2005, the fifth Champions League victory was as sweet as they come. In 2nd place it has to be the Final of 1984 when we won it in Rome.

Kenny Dalglish and your new owners seems to have turned Liverpool back in the right direction, what do you think they have done to achieve this?

They eliminated the debt the club had and starting to include the fans more and the most important thing is that they so far have kept their promises.

What are your thoughts on Liverpool’s start to the season?

Overall we have started well, it could have been better but with so many new players in the squad it will take time until we see all the benefits.

What would constitute a good season in your eyes, what is your minimum level of expected achievement for this?

If we do better than the previous season then it is a good season as long as we keep showing improvement I am happy.

Luis Suarez has attracted positive and negative headlines this season, how good can he be? Would you like to see him try and improve his perceived image as a diver and play actor?

He is currently the most fouled player in the league.

Unfortunately the British News-Media is very Xenophobic and they love to tarnish foreign players and managers.

Against W.B.A. Suarez was fouled in the box (he has hit on the knee which of course makes you lose your balance) he fell and he didn’t even raise his hands in the air or ask for a penalty. The referee gave the penalty (which was a good call) however the pundits think otherwise and claim that Suarez dived.

What have you made of Chelsea’s start to the season?

Quite honestly I am not impressed with Andre Villa-Boas, he is no Mourinho.

Now for the hard part, who is the Chelsea player you admire the most/dislike the least and why?

Admire : Petr Cech (World Class Keeper) , Juan Mata (Wish we could have signed him but we couldn’t afford his salary), Michael Essien (One of the best defending midfielders in the world), David Luiz (he is exciting to watch).

Dislike : John Terry (What he did to Wayne Bridge), Ashley Cole (Bad attitude), Fernando Torres (Judas), Frank Lampard (He annoys me), Drogba (probably the one who gave foreigners a bad name with his play-acting)

The rivalry between our clubs is intense, how do you see the game this weekend going? Are you confident of getting a result?
Yes I can definitely see it happening :-)

Kenny Dalglish has complained about the timing of our tie in the Carling Cup, do you think he was right in his assertion that fans should boycott this fixture?

48 hour turnaround is a joke especially when you are playing 2 top clubs and it makes it impossible to play your top players for both games. Kenny never asked fans to boycott any fixtures.
