Who Is The Greatest Chelsea Goalkeeper OF All Time?
Chelsea have had some great goalkeepers, including incumbent Petr Cech and the answer to who is the greatest Chelsea goalkeeper of all time is not an easy one.
The Chelsea Football Fancast is currently running a feature where they discuss the best Chelsea players to play in each position over the club’s history before putting it to the vote of their listeners.
Being relatively lazy and thinking this is a great idea we are going to join them putting our thoughts together and giving our recommendation
Greatest Goalkeeper Of All Time
The Chelsea Football Fancast made three suggestions based on their extensive knowledge
- Petr Cech
- Peter Bonetti
- Carlo Cudicini
Petr Cech (2004 – Present)
Petr Cech is an incredible goalkeeper and has been our number one goalkeeper for more than 8 years and looks set to comfortably make it a decade between the posts for the Blues.
His career was nearly cut short, a horror injury in a collision with Stephen Hunt left him with a fractured skull and it took him nearly two years to battle his way back to his best.
A fantastic shot stopper his only weakness is that he does not have the command of his penalty area that he could, however that really is nitpicking.
He has won the Premier League and FA Cup three times apiece and the consolation League Cup twice.
He has also won a cabinet full of personal accolades including two Premier League golden glove awards and last season’s player of the year award.
Peter Bonetti (2 spells between 1960 – 1979)
Although I have never seen him play Peter Bonetti is widely recognised as possibly the finest goalkeeper to ever play for the club.
Bonetti was known for his great handling skills, lightning reflexes and a graceful style which earned him the nickname “The Cat”.
He played for Chelsea in two spells totalling 19 years making over 500 appearances winning the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup Winners Cup.
He may not have been our most successful goalkeeper in terms of silverware, but he was a consistent performer without the advantage of the same calibre of defence that Cech had.
Due to his amazing statistics and Iong service I think that Bonetti earns the FamousCFC.com vote for best goalkeeper.

Other notable Chelsea Goalkeepers
- Peter Borata

- Eddie Niedzwiecki
- Ed De Goey
- Dmitri Kharine
- William ‘Fatty’ Foulkes

Daily CFC Blog-News Review – 25th Jan 2012
I was sorry to hear in the last couple of days that our record goal scorer Bobby Tambling is currently in hospital.
The 70 year old is reported to be suffering with a serious condition and we would like to wish our top scorer a speedy recovering as all Chelsea fans are pulling for you sir!
FamousCFC.com start the day by suggesting that anyone can become a professional footballer as long as they are happy with being Man City’s seventh choice left back.
With all the struggles and debates over our best formation ChelseaDaft cover this issue in depth, although CFC.Kris would like to see a 4-3-3 but only if we can get some pacy wingers in the style of Robben and Duff from the Mourinho era.
Also don’t forget that the Chelsea Football Fancast is out this week for two hours of Chelsea based discussion, ranting, singing and banter.
Transfer News
The mainstream media the BBC and several other sources are reporting that we have opened talks to sign Kevin De Bruyne from Genk with a range of possible options including a loan back being discussed. I think this would be a positive mood as the kid is obviously talented and we could bed him into the team after a full pre-season.

Why Chelsea stop playing when they go 1-0 up? Is Kalou really a super-sub, and most of all who was wearing Luiz wigs and… do we believe Chelsea can win the title???
As always we award our Man and Chant of the Match and Guinness and Celery moments from the games, and after that we have a seaside flavoured “We’re out to Show the World the Way to Sing”
