THAT Fernando Torres Goal From Chelsea End at Nou Camp

If Chelsea win the 2012 Champions League then the goal from Fernando Torres at the Nou Camp could prove to be a defining moment in the history of Chelsea and the legacy of Torres in Blue.

I am not to keen on the chatting on the background but here is a view from the stand of Fernando Torres scoring in the 91st minute to seal our semi-final victory.

Fulham v Chelsea Video 1984 (3-5)

Having totally forgotten about a preview for this game, I thought we would instead treat you to some old school football.

This is a game between Chelsea and Fulham in 1984, lets hope the game is as exciting today.

Video of Ricardo Fuller Stamp On Ivanovic

This stamp from Ricardo Fuller saw him sent off reducing Stoke to 10 men and helping us on our way to a narrow victory in Roberto Di Matteo’s first home game.

It really was an act of stupidity from Ricardo Fuller and as @gate17marco intimated was more worthy of a prison sentence than a red card as there is no place from this in the future.

Can Roberto Di Matteo Save Our Season?

In the wake of the sacking of Andre Villas Boas we have appointed a bona fide Chelsea legend as manager until the end of the season.

Whilst I love Roberto Di Matteo he is part of the AVB regime and we have to wonder if he will have the ability to pull the players together in a way that can allow us to gain ground on 4th in the Premier League and start the healing process once more.

Chelsea Hero

Di Matteo is a Chelsea hero having played for the club in the glorious team of the late 1990’s scoring the first goal in record time during our first FA Cup victory in 27 years in 1997.

As a Chelsea hero and once the dust settles he will have the unreserved backing of the fans who know that he is in a very low percentage situation, the team is in chaos and even if he guides us to respectability I doubt he will retain the job in the long term.

Previous Managerial Experience

Di Matteo does have managerial experience a successful period at Milton Keynes Dons and a turbulent period at West Brom.

The irony that the club that sacked him sealed the fate of AVB and got him a promotion is another coincidence of the game.

He started well at West Brom and got the Baggies promoted playing attractive football, however after a bright start in the Premier League his team went on a terrible run and he was sacked in February 2011.

In the summer he joined AVB’s staff and who would have thought only a year after leaving West Brom he would be the incumbent Chelsea manager.

Right Man For The Job?

The Chelsea job is a poisoned chalice at the best of times, taking over mid-season with the club in a poor position in the league it is a suicidal position for even the most accomplished manager.

Whilst he is no Guus Hiddink, he does have his relationship with the fans and knowledge of the players on his side, yet he will have to produce something different with the same players that AVB had.

Di Matteo would not have been my first choice as manager, but given the lack of options and the abhorrent Benitez rumour he is an acceptable choice.

Can He Turn Things Around?

The first few training sessions and games will be key, if he shows that he is his own man and has a plan, then he can win over the players and maybe just maybe turn our results around and get things on track.

We have Birmingham in the FA Cup, Stoke at home in the league and then Napoli, if he can get some creditable results then we will have a good platform for a crucial last few months of the season.

The SOS has gone out; I am not convinced Di Matteo can make the difference but he has answered the call and we will all be right behind him.
