Initial Reactions After Fulham Game

Petr Cech, John Terry and Ashley Cole defend a Chelsea corner

Having just gotten back from the game and my initial reactions are those of frustration at another lacklustre performance at Stamford Bridge.

Overview

We dominated the first half however could not create any real penetration creating only one or two chances of note.

We got the goal early on in the second half and then decided to sit back and let Fulham have the ball and for the second time in a week we conceded a goal with a cross right in front of Petr Cech put in by Clint Dempsey.

Overall we had plenty of the ball today but we lacked a cutting edge to get behind Fulham who were relatively comfortable defensively.

Players

Having regained a starting berth Frank Lampard was ineffectual in the middle of the park as Daniel Sturridge who failed to get much joy down the channels and for the large part Juan Mata (excluding his goal)

There were some good performances thou; Oriol Romeu was solid and looks calm and assured in defensive midfield.

There was also a positive performance from the much maligned Fernando Torres, recalled to the starting line up he looked sharp and up for the fight and battling for the team.

He was unlucky not to score in the first half and gave an encouraging performance all is not lost with Mr Torres in my eyes.

Final Conclusion

A poor performance and another disappointing result, improvement is needed if we are to qualify for the Champions League next season, let alone challenge for any honours.
