When Ramires joined the club, Chelsea fans with an eye for continental and Brazilian football were elated with his capture following a prolonged chase.

The midfielder however has not had a great start to his Chelsea career; he is not quick enough on or off the ball and this robs him of time and leads to him being dispossessed far too frequently and in dangerous positions.

Yet this does not mean that the man is without talent, springing from the deep with surging runs he has shown signs of a powerful attacking instinct. This is when he has put in his best performances for the blues, when his attacking prowess is able to bring itself to the fore.

Many fans have written him off but this is a short sighted view and I credit Chelsea fans with more knowledge of the game than this.

The continental style he played at Benfica suited his game and the Brazilian will have to adapt to a faster, stronger and more competitive league before he can start producing his best and winning over the fans.

This however is possible; many of Chelsea’s best players over the last few years have had rocky first seasons. Of the current squad Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda spring to mind in the case of the latter it took around two years for the Frenchman to start hitting top form.

It is unfortunate that due to injuries the burden of responsibility in midfield has fallen to Ramires so soon, if injuries and suspensions were not having such a crippling effect on the team then it is likely he would have made only a handful of starts and been given more time to feel his way into his new surroundings

It is impossible to tell if Ramires will adapt to the English game, many have tried and failed but he deserves the time to learn and adapt.
